GitHub Sync disabled RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was using git with VS 2013.  Did several commits. no problem.

Then I set up a place in GitHub to put these things.  I started the Sync operation.  It started working.  Had 5,993 files, and 269MB of size.

It was chunking along.  And then it failed.  Said it was "canceled".

Now the Sync button in VS is disabled and I can't try it again.

What do I do to get the button enabled again?

  • Don't see anything in Event Viewer.

Don't know what "other VS" is.  I work at home.  I have one VS2013 and that is what I used.

I finally ended up downloading the GitHub for Windows.   I also deleted the .git folder and recreated it so that I didn't have several years of versions.  Then I added the Solution to git. Then went to GitHub for Windows and was able to get everything working.

Well, I SAY everything, but I think what it did was ONLY upload source files and I wanted to include all the dll dependencies so that if I retrieved it, I would have EVERYTHING necessary to rebuild the system.  At this point, I'm not sure I have everything there.  But at least I have SOMETHING there and can work from that.

But I gave up trying to do get it started using VS.  Insufficient error messages and no apparent options to change anything.

  • Hi Mark,

Did you try to reopen VS? You may try to restart machine and try again.

If it still has the issue, please try to clone it to a new local repository and try again.

  • Yes, reopened VS, restarted machine, restarted VS. Still the same.

Not sure what cloning to a new local would do.  But I did it and it didn't make a difference.

  • Hi Mark,

Are there error message in the Event Viewer?

What’s the result if you connect to that GitHub through other VS?

Please try to create a new GitHub repository, then connect to it through your VS and check whether the button is enabled.

  • Hi Mark,

The other VS means the VS installed in other machine.

What’s the result if you clone GitHub to local path again?

  • I still don't know what you mean by "VS installed on other machine".   I have one machine with one VS.

Anyway, I've moved on.  I got something into GitHub thanks to GitHub for Windows and no thanks to VS.
