Does biztalk 2010 supports 2016 as client database? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are currently using biztalk 2010 and sql 2008 for both biztak and project database. We are planning to migrate ONLY the project database from 2008 to higher version (thinking of sql2016) without touching biztalk software databases.

My question is, does biztalk2010 adapters supports to pull and push the data to project/client sql 2016 database? I do not want to migrate biztalk version since we are planning to go away from biztalk soon.

What is the best options we have, does biztalk2010 supports higher version client/project databases like 2012/14 or 2016? is there anyways we can install right adapter to make it work without biztalk upgrade?

  • Presumably, you are migrating the BizTalk apps to Azure as Azure is the only upgrade path from BizTalk unless you're willing to give up a lot of capability.  SQL Server 2016 and Azure SQL is fully supported by Azure Integration Services.

As for on-prem. It should work fine, meaning you should expect the SQL Adapters in BizTalk Server 2010 to connect to SQL Server 2016 without issue, possibly after a client update.

Of course, you must test the entire app first.  Technically, this is not a supported setup so your organization needs to determine if 'supported' in the case is really necessary, meaning getting support directly from Microsoft.

Just to be clear, this is for app databases only.  You cannot upgrade the SQL Server hosting the BizTalk Databases.  That must stay on SQL Server 2008 R2.
