Lockup during installation using Answer file RRS feed

  • Installing from bootable thumb drive onto device with hard drive. Installation locks up at random and never completes.

    Installation from IBW succeeds.

    Any advise? How can I enable logging to determine the reason behind lock-ups?

    To clarify, you're saying that when you use an answer file with IBW, the installation locks up.  However, if you just start an installation using the IBW wizard interface, this installation works fine. Is that correct?

    Logging is enabled by default in IBW.

    IBW log locations:

    ·         While running "autorun" (before clicking "Build an Image" or "Deploy an Answer File or WIM")

    o   No Logs

    ·         Before installation actually starts (before clicking "Next" on the disk selection screen)

    o   X:\windows\panther

    ·         After installation starts

    o   C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther

    ·         After installation completes

    o   C:\Windows\Panther

     

    There is only one set of logs. The entire Panther folder is copied to different locations depending on which phase of installation the install is currently in. Note that the "X" drive is a RAM only drive. Logs stored here will be lost after rebooting your device.

    It sounds like your installation gets to the phase where the logs would be located at C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther. If so, after the lockup you can restart your device, and either click the "Launch WinPE Command Prompt" link on the first page of IBW, or simply hit Shift + F10 to open a command prompt window. From the command prompt, you can navigate the the Panther directory and look at setupact.log and cbs_unattend.log to try and examine what happened. You can also post the entire Panther folder here, and we can try to diagnose the problem.
