    What kind of reports, CristalReport, ReportViewer ?.
    Which version of VisualStudio are you using?.

    Here are some links that may help.

  • I am developping a software that will generate 2 types of reports

    A - job related print-outs (eg quotation for a client or invoice, or job cost summary)

    B - management reports

    Up to now I was developing the software with Visual Studio 2003 in VB with the in built module of Crystal Report. For reports described in A I linked my crystal report object to an SQL Server stored procedure. For reports mentioned in B I had a function that fills a dataset to which a crystal report object is linked. All of this worked perfectly.

    As I need to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010, I decided to use the Microsoft technology to generate my documents and management reports. I have been through a lot of samples. But up to now I do not have the final solution. I prefer to avoid wizard and to code the process.

    I can't accept that Microsoft Reporting cannot provide me with the same facility as previous versions of Visual Studio .

  • Hi Patrick,

    Crystal report is not supported so far. So you may cannot add the cystal report in VS 2010 directly, but you can try to use reportviewer, and here is a dedicated forum for this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsreportcontrols/threads

  • Hi Mike,

    Thank you for your update. I understand that Crystal Report is not supported and it is why I want to use Microsoft Report viewer. But I cannot find samples. May be the best thing is to post a question on the Forum that you gave me.

    Best Regards

  • On my Windows Form I have a report viewer and a button to display the report. The report has been built using the dataset as datasource. There is no table adapter linked to the dataset. In my code, I issue a SQL statement which fills the dataset. here is my vb code:

            Dim SqlString As String = ""
            Dim SqlAdp As New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter()
            Dim SqlCmd As New SqlClient.SqlCommand()

            Dim ds As New dsTestPrint
            Dim Bs As New BindingSource
            Dim Rds As New Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportDataSource

            Dim ErrorMessage As String = "OK"

            Try

                ReportViewer1.Visible = False

                'Put the stored procedure result into a dataset
                SqlCmd.CommandText = "Select VshReference, ContactCode, VshExpectedDate, ContactDescription from VisitHeader "
                SqlAdp.SelectCommand = SqlCmd
                SqlAdp.SelectCommand.Connection = Cn
                SqlAdp.Fill(ds, "TestReportVisit")
                ErrorMessage += ", dataset number or rows = " + ds.Tables("TestReportVisit").Rows.Count.ToString.Trim

                Rds.Name = "ds"
                Rds.Value = Bs

                Bs.DataMember = "TestReportVisit"
                Bs.DataSource = ds

                Me.ReportViewer1.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(Rds)
                Me.ReportViewer1.LocalReport.ReportEmbeddedResource = "WindowsApplication1.Report2.rdlc"

                ReportViewer1.Visible = True
                ReportViewer1.Refresh()

                MessageBox.Show(ErrorMessage)
            Catch ex As Exception
                MessageBox.Show("Procedure   : " & ex.Message & vbCrLf & "Source : " & ex.Source & vbCrLf & "Stack Trace : " & ex.StackTrace)
            End Try

     But when the report viewer appears it is empty. Help would be most welcome as I am battling with this since several days.
