Working in copy of MSSQL database, can I keep changes if I restore from working MSSQL database. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am extremely new to MSSQL, so please excuse me if this question is a no-brainer.  I am doing quite a few upgrades to an old site I inherited.  I made a copy of the database that is running the site.  I installed it on a new server, because we will be switching servers when completed.  Now I need to make some additions to the tables in the copy of the MSSQL database.  When we get ready to switch the site to the new server, I need all the latest info from the working MSSQL database.  If I do a backup, and then restore it to the copy I am working in, is it going to erase all my changes?  If so, is there a better approach?  Thanks in advance.

  • HI there,

You could also update all your tables and confirm the Db in dev site is ready(for moving to new server) and finally backup the dev db and restore as a NEW DATABASE from that backup file on your new server .

    Thanks, Leks
