SQL data protection - SSRS - PowerPivot RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are creating reports & charts in Reporting Services based on live data in SQL Server 2008R2.

We’d like for customers to be able to view these from their PowerPivot app and be able to slightly modify (sort, filter, rearrange) the data, but not copy or save it.

Is there any function that will allow view-only permissions on a SQL/SSRS/PowerPivot level or at least delete the data upon their closing Excel?

    Tough nut to crack.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  • This is more of an Excel question than a SQL Server question, so you might want to find the Microsoft Excel forums.

Preventing copy or save in some fashion is impossible if the user is determined enough.  The best you can do is make it more difficult, as this person suggests:

  • Thanks Russell, your response was of great help to us.

Yep, we figured the best you can do is keep from being "low-hanging fruit", since the truly determined ones will always figure out a way.

    I appreciate the links.

Hope you're having a good Friday,
