Blobstorage extremely slow download

    Question

  • We have built an application running in Azure. All images in the content are uploaded to the azure blobstore and served from there. However, downloading the images by the browser is extremely slow. Images of 15K can take up to 200 - 500 ms. The same images, if served from the webrole itself, takes about 20ms. You can see the behaviour at http://www.moorddiner-vergelijken.nl/. All images from blob.core.windows.net are from the blob storage. What are we doing wrong?

Or should we stop using the blobstorage like this and store the images on a CDN for performance? If so, how safe is it to store the images there? Is it backupped etc?

    With kind regards,

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

I can't tell if the performance you're seeing with BlobStorage is 'normal'. I have seen better but also worse response times...

CDN is actually on top of your blob container so you still have all the advantages of blobstorage (backups, etc.) but only with better performance.

Have a look at this guide which explains the CDN in some more details...

    Hope this helps.
