visual studio sharepoint extension? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to install sharepoint extension for visual studio on my x64 box. I've seen other people bloggin/complainning about Microsoft offering only 32bit version. Is this still true that Microsoft has not released 64bit version yet?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

Visual Studio 2010 is a 32-bit application.  If you install it on a 64-bit machine, you can build 64-bit applications.

    Thanks,
    Gearard

  • Hi Gearard, Thanks for your reply.

Oh, I didn't know visual studio 2008/2010 are shipped as 32-bit versions only. Is that why all VS plug-ins are released as 32-bits?

How come my machine (x64) has VS 2008 installed then?

  • 32-bit applications are able to run on 64-bit Windows using the 32-bit emulator that is built-in to the operating system.  See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384249(VS.85).aspx for more information about that environment.
