Hiding sub sites or lists in sharepoint 2013

    Question

  • I have an access database which has linked tables in sharepoint.

    The dbase add records to the linked table, but I do not want the users to be able to

    alter the list from sharepoint only from the database.

    As I understand it I have to give the user permission to read write to the list but that means they also have access to the list through sharepoint. how do i prevent this

    We are on sharepoint 2013

    Any constructive help will be greatly appreciated

  • Hi Hansorian,

    You want to make the users to be able to alter the list only from linked tables while not from SharePoint

    You can hide the new item/edit toolbar in SharePoint 2013 via css, add a content edit web part in your page, and add the following css into it:

    <style type="text/css">

    #Ribbon\.ListItem\.New\.NewListItem-Large

    {

     display:none;

    }
    #Ribbon\.ListItem\.Manage\.EditProperties-Large

    {

     display:none;

    }

    #Hero-WPQ2
    {

     display:none;

    }

    </style>

  • Hi Hansorian,

    It will not prevent anyone using file explorer. That just hide the new item/edit toolbar in SharePoint 2013.

    But are you working with a SharePoint list? There is no explorer view for list.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa Chen
