  • Question

  • Could you please reopen my thread. It took me a few days to get back to it and I have some more info to upload.

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/partnerwinclient7rc/thread/ad3a4d99-44bb-48a2-a35d-c6e39c07dab3

Per Carols' last post, the pieces identified are part of our managed service plan. I removed them as well as the AV and it didn't make a difference with the file locks.

I spoke with C/S support further about the locked files and they believe it is opportunistic locking which is causing the problem for XP and 7 workstations. I've done some research on this but would like some more info please. How do I disable it on the workstations? OR...is it a server issue as well??

    Thanks!

    Yep, it worked.

  • In my opinion it was much better as it was before. Now I am seeing very unusual for me interface and also I do not see a way to subscribe to a forum. And my original subscription to the partner's forum is useless now.

I am really very disappointed and upset now because of this move. Can I have the original normal interface back, please?

  • No, it can't go back it's a different format.

Best you can do is to get a filtered view and bookmark that view.

  • Why was this move done before consulting the Partners? Did anyone express a desire to switch?

Anyway, the interface is horrible and I need to be able to subscribe to the forum - please give me back this ability.

  • When you say 'subscribe to the forum' what exactly do you mean?
    Sunday, February 3, 2013 4:42 AM
  • I mean I had ASP.NET forum in My Forums. I was able to access my threads and I was seeing all new threads posted in that forum. Now, if I go to that forum from My Forums all I see are the locked threads and announcement. So, does it mean that my subscription is now completely useless?

Also, will I be still able to access my threads in the partners forums directly from My Threads?

  • How can I get that automatically when I click on My Forums? I did check the above few minutes ago and even answered in one of the recent threads. However, I need to be able to see the recent threads in 'My Forums Threads'  and see this forum in 'My Forums' as it used to be. I do not want to go into a separate place when I had everything in one view before.

  • Best I can recommend is to tell you to bookmark that.

Just put away the "old" way.  You have to find a way to deal with the "new" way because the old forums are not coming back.

  • But I can complain about it, right? And if many Partners will complain perhaps MS will listen? Or at least I can let my opinion to be known that this move greatly negatively affected the way I operated with forums.

    hi Naomi

looking at the various changes in the forums over the past few month MS seems not to listen to/care about our opinion, e.g. see the topic "new style / layout ran", "Hard to read forums" etc.

Instead of motivating and supporting us to help other users MS makes harder to get help from the community in the forum.

  • Yes, exactly. And judging by the number of new threads about this problem, the Partners were not even notified about that change. Many are confused now and I am personally very disappointed as I am no longer able to track the new messages in the forum I wanted to track.

  • Hi Naomi,

Firstly, thank you for your comments and for the help you provide to other Partners in these and the Partner forums. I accept that we made some pretty major changes to the Partner forums at the end of last week. We made a call on the communications that we would not go big on the marketing side but try and delight Partners with a great new interface. Judging by your comments that wasn't entirely successful.

So why did we make the changes:

    1) To access the old partner forums for the first time Partners were required to go through an authentication process that could take up to 24 hours. We could see from the data and many Partners told us that they often gave up during the process. The new Partner Support Community fixes this with pretty much instant access.

    2) We had repeated Partner feedback that search on the old forums was extremely poor and often unreliable. As a result we saw many Partners drop out of the community and search elsewhere. The new Partner Support Community search provides answers from the Partner forums, MSDN, TechNet, Microsoft Support kb and Dynamics forums.

    3) Forums are great for open discussion but generally they are not good for private conversations. We had many threads in the past that we had to answer with either "call us" or "submit an incident". The new Partner Support Community has a private thread capability. So if our support professional needs to know more or perhaps see a screenshot that includes personal or customer information that thread can be moved to a secure private discussion.

    4) As well as private threads we now have a capability to launch private forums. We often have requests from Partners for private forums within the Partner forum. For example, let's say a private forum for all Partner architects worldwide to share information and questions that they do not want shared with the wider community.

    5) Me Too! Some Partners like this some definitely do not. The reason there is a Me Too button is that it allows us to gauge the amount of Partner support for a particular question. We have internal triggers that mean where we see spikes on a thread we take the content so that thread back to the relevant team in Microsoft to drive change.

    6) Community expansion. Over the next two months we will be launching MPN program support communities across 10 additional languages. We needed a platform that could support that expansion and enable us to engage directly with Partners worldwide.

So, Naomi, none of this is to say that we could not have done a better job communicating. I also accept that you and many other frequent users of the existing forums are our key customers in this area. So I will commit to looking at any suggestions you have that would make the new Partner Support Community better. Some things we may be able to change quickly some may take more time.

What would help me is if you post all your input into the Partner feedback forum (you find this on the bottom left of every Partner Support Community page) - that way we can get a discussion going with yourself and others about continual improvement.

Thank you very much for you contribution.
