Unable to communicate with SQL Server Express 2008 R2 over wifi RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have written a .NET program for a windows 6.5 mobile device . When I run it on the handheld over the wifi it is unable to talk to the SQL Server (Express). The wifi is configured correctly and I am able to ping the handheld from the computer that has the SQL Server, the 2 arrows show at the top etc. I have tried this out on 3 different LANs and 2 different servers with the same result. I also tried de-activitating the firewall and that did not seem the make any difference. I know that the software is capable of communicating with the server however because when I put the handheld in the USB dock, the software can talk to SQL Server with no problems.

    Any ideas?

  • Hello,

    First, you need to check these settings:

    1) Check the Firewall settings

    2) Check TCP/IP in SQL server is enabled

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/841252  (check this for above two)

    Also, you need to check the connect string, you can try to this string:

    gMSConn = New SqlConnection("Server=,1433;Initial Catalog=MANUFORCE;User ID=sa;Password=1234;")

    I hope these information can help you to solve this problem.
