Smart Device Projects in VS2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know VS2010 did not support smart device projects and if you were writing apps for Pocket PCs and WM6.5 you had to hang with VS2008 or earlier.

I've installed VS2012 but still don't see the smart device project as an option.   Someone said they thought they'd heard that you had to download and install an extension to VS2012 to acheive this.

IS this true and if so what and where is this extension?

    Thanks

    Harry

Answers

  • Indeed no support for smart device application in VS2010. No support for vs2012 yet....VS2012 will support smart device application development but only devices targeting WEC2013. WEC2013 is roadmapped :

  • So to summarize the ever changing terminology from Microsoft, the answer is if you are going to write applications for the standard handheld device OS which is now WEH6.5x you must use VS2005 or VS2008 for development and maintenance.

    Thanks

  • AFAIK, the only options are for Windows Phone 7 and 8.

    This thread discusses the situation:
