Game Launcher + File Sync RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I am making a game launcher, currently it will launch the game. But I hit a rock....

    I need help, links, Tutorials, demo type help. This launcher will have to download game files that are being up to date and delete files that are no longer needed. So I need to sync the files. I have a server which the files will always be up to date, from that the user who has the launcher will download updates from the server into their own game folder...

    Any ideas on how to do this?

  • Hiya,

    I say thats awesome! :)   And to you address your question then think about the following;

         Server-side - updated game(s) version list

         Client-side - local game(s) version list

    These files are used in compare. the client send a list for DL and the server sends

    the required updates.  client will update local games and list.  I know this is codeless

    help but asking for server/client code is huge task.

    Its a basic idea of customer request get/from to/send Manufactuarer query and response task.

    Hope this helps. :)

  • Yes it helps some, I had over 30 ideas on how to do this in my head and server/client side is one of them. What you said gives me less to think about, all I got to do is go and code, but any links to tutorial, demo type applications would be nice.

    That is so I can get a general idea on how I would code such a thing.
