    On and HP dv5000 Laptop, I am running;<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>Microsoft Windows XP<o:p></o:p><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Media</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>Internet Information Services
    Version 5.1<o:p></o:p><o:p> </o:p>ASP.NET Framework 2.0.50727

    Here is the problem, even though I have configured my “Test’ website with an Application name of Test and Execute Permissions of Script only (…and I have also tried Scripts and Executables, I experience the following;<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>In Internet Explorer, I can run;<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>http://LocalHost/Test/Test.htm <o:p></o:p><o:p> </o:p>However, I cannot run;
    http://LocalHost/Test/Test.asp<o:p></o:p>as I receive the following error;<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>The website cannot display the page – HTTP 500, so on and so forth.<o:p></o:p><o:p> </o:p>Further more, I have installed DotNet Nuke and attempted to run that directly from my browser and it will not run either.<o:p></o:p>The resounding pattern here is that I cannot run .asp or .aspx pages.<o:p></o:p><o:p> </o:p>Any direction that can offered would be greatly appreciated as I have several Classic ASP and ASP.NET projects I need to develop and run on my laptop.

    Let's fix ASP first. disable IE friend error msgs, and post the actual error mgs here.
    HOW TO: Troubleshoot ASP in IIS 5.

    HOW TO: Troubleshoot an "HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error" Error Message

     Just test browse a simple hello.asp will do... also take a look at the event viewer error.

    This is what I discovered in the Event Viewer, Application Log

    Source: MSDTC Client

    Category: (10)

    Event_ID: 4427

    Failed to initialize the needed name objects.  Error Specifies: d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\dtc\dtc\msdtcprx\src\dtinit.cpp:215, Pid:1956

    No Callstack

    CmdLine: "C:Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\sqlserver.exe" -sMSSQLServer

     I also have the same log entry, but with the following;

    Cmdline: C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllhost.exe /Processid:{02D4B3F1-FD88-11D1-960D-00805FC79235}

    MSDTC Client seems to be a problem?

    Not sure where to go from here.

    That's not really an IIS error.. have you disable IE friendly error msgs ? and what's the actual error msgs you see in browser?

    any other event log related to iisadmin, w3svc, etc. ?

    I understand that these are not IIS errors.  However, when I attempt to run http://localhost/Test/Test.asp.

     I get Application log entries and the Unfriendly information below.

    Server Application Error

    The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.

    Thanks for the help.

    So what is in the IIS log? It seems this is a problem of MSDTC and SQL Server. ASP failed when calling SQL Server.
