Using MainWindow.xaml design panel

    Question

  • Hi, I have been developing projects/programs since I purchased Visual Studio Pro, all has been working wonderful until today 4/3/2016, today I started a new project using BlankApp C#, same thing I have used before many times, but today after I named the project, it loaded normal...however when I open and open solution explorer then I open Design panel or window to use it... it will NOT LOAD but tells me I now need Windows 10 to open and use it.  What has happened, all worked fine yesterday but today I need Windows 10, has Microsoft put in an update into my Visual Studio 2015 Pro that is trying to make me update to windows 10....forcing it/me ..this really stinks, I am so annoyed and angry... any ideas anyone why this is happening.. please, if you have any insight to help me, let me know. I tried going to support, however for 1 5-pack of support from Microsoft they want me to pay them $600.00, just to answer this question. I am just a two-man operation here and can't afford the cost.... I really do not understand why now Visual Studio Pro is now insisting I update to Windows 10 (which I tried and hated)... just so I can use the Design portion in my development.....ahhhh thank you for any help

  • Hi Weiwei,

I uninstalled update RC-2, started Visual Studio Pro 2015 (after re-installing it, as the uninstall took all VS versions off not just the update) and my programs all started normal again. The blankApp that the update RC-2 put there in my projects was only for Windows 10, problem solved, guess if I am going to use the new cross platform or universal apps templates I will need to install Windows 10 (I hate it...lol ) Thank you again for the input, happy key clicking....

  • Hi Daniel Goggia,

As far as I know, Visual Studio 2015 need't install on Windows 10, it can works in Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 and so on. So it could not force you  to upgrade your Windows.

Since it works fine before 4/3/2016, please check whether there has any updates installed for your Visul Studio and Windows. Please check it from Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Installed Update. You can sort these updates with Installed On column to find out the updates installed on 4/2 ~ 4/3.

Then please uninstall these updates one by one to check which updates causes this issue.

Next, please confirm whether you create a Windows 10 app which need design on Windows 10 machine.

In addition, please tell us which version of Windows you are using. I will create a VM and try to reproduce your problem.

    Best Regards,
    Weiwei

  • Hi, thank you for the response, yes the problem started after I installed Visual Studio Pro R-2 or update 2. Since then when starting a new blank app under installed C#, after I pick BlankApp1 and click ok, it brings up a window it never use to before update, it ask me to chose what version I want to run the program in Windows 10 build #########11 (not the real build numbers) or Windows 10 ######22, does not give me any other picks to chose from, only those two, so I click ok and it loads the start of the app I am going to build up, I start solution explorer and try to start the Design Window under the View on top menu and when I do, it does not open my program up, instead it gives me a small window with message that I must update my Operating System to Windows 10 in order to use the Design Function for this app I am trying to build. NOTE that I am not using a BlankApp1 10 template but just the normal C# BlankApp1, have built other programs with this template and it did not ask me what version I wanted to have the app run on..only since VS Pro Update 2, I am going to UN-install the Visual Studio Pro Update 2 or RC-2 (not sure what they called it now) and will see if I get my problem solved from there...will let you know, and thank you again for the response, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, only change was the update VS Pro build-2

  • Hi, thank you for showing me the link for Windows 10, however if you look at my post you will see that I installed windows 10 but did not like it. I installed Windows 10 right after it came out from the little icon on my task bar, when I found they had taken Aero effect out of it, I took Windows 10 off my system, didn't like some of the other features that would not let me run my system the way I wanted too, I am really one of those who do not like my system telling me how to use, run, when, where and how...you get the picture.... I like my system letting me do what I want and not what it wants.... but thank you. I noted on the MS discussion boards that a few other did not like this either (hundreds +) I finally had to take off my email for the discussion list for that topic as I had so many a day come in, I got tired of deleting them...way to many..lol, so a lot of people are like me and would have liked it if Microsoft would have kept the option in to run Aero and more control over other functions in the system. I went under the hood before I took Windows 10 off and did get the things I wanted to work the way I wanted too, but it really took some digging to find where they put them to get access, but could not get my really cool looking glass look back....so canned the OS and went back to what I think is a much better one.
