Windows Phone 8 - Developer Phone Registration Tool

  • Hi,

I have a Windows Phone 8 device which I want to developer unlock. I followed these instructions: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsphone/develop/ff769508(v=vs.105).aspx

After pressing register the "Sign in" dialog should appear and I should be able to sign in with developer account credentials. The Sign in dialog box appears only for a short time and then closes instantly. I cannot even see what it contains, it closes immediately.

I tried uninstalling-reinstalling the Windows Phone 8 SDK 3 times already, but it did not help.

    Any ideas?

  • Hi,

Something might be wrong regarding the device driver installation for the phone device.

    1. In Windows 8, open the File Explorer, and locate Portable Devices.  Try renaming the device.

    2. If that fails, open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), locate Portable Devices, and then right click on your phone device and choose uninstall. Let the phone reinstall.

  • @Florin - What is the message you are getting on the Unlock tool? Can you try resetting the browser settings, try disabling pop-up blocker if enabled. Also, can you please share which company WP8 are you using?

  • @Nikki - try resetting your Internet Explorer settings back to default. Delete cookies and stored passwords and disable pop-up blockers.

  • Did you have internet connection? The sign in window closes if there is no internet.

  • Mark, how can I register a WP8 on a Win 7 machine?

Since I installed SDK 7.8 the registration tool keeps asking for Zune, which cannot work with WP8

  • Hi,

If you have a WP8 device, you must use the Windows Phone 8 SDK tools to program it. This means you also need a development computer with Windows 8 on it etc., per the SDK minimum requirements.

  • I had the same problem. After I found this thread I was trying all these steps, &  when I'm going to my Dev account, there was a message as bellow,
We've made some changes—you might notice your account expiration isn't appearing anymore. Go here to get the scoop.
Then,I just went through my account again, but, it was not expired or nothing was wrong there. Any how I went through my Dev: Account & re-saved all the account details. After that, when I'm pressing "Register" button, the Sign in dialog box appeared normally & I could successfully developer unlock my phone.

These links also will helpful for you.
