Visual Studio 2015 CTP5 - Can't sign in - why? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have created a test account to be able to sign in to Visual Studio Online. But Visual Studio Online doesn't authenticate my account.

I've been trying this for several hours now, but I don't seem to be able to sign in.

This is urgent. My trial period will expire within 4 days from now on.

Are there some special requirements to the account in order to succeed?

Here's a small movie clip demonstrating the problem.

    Your help is appreciated.

  • Hi,

The demostration you posted is to sign in Visual Studio. To sign in Visual Studio Online with your MS account, you can sign in from http://www.visualstudio.com/ and then click your Visual Studio Online account. Or you can navigate to your Visual Studio Online account url(http://AccountName.visualstudio.com) and sign in with your MS account directly.

If you connect to your team project in Visual Studio Online via Team Explorer, then you can connect to the team project by add the server of your Visual Studio Online account(Team--Connect to TFS--Add server). Also refer to this page for more information. If you have any other concerns, please elaborate more details about your scenario.

  • Hi,

Visual Studio Online is a bundle of features for Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).

One of the feature is web interface, i.e. using browser you are able to do many functionalities.

When you said the new CTP version having issue, just want to drill down the issues either credential or client issue.

You didn't create any website/virtual directory using VSO, just you logged in the already created Azure based ALM system.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks, Charles, for enlightening me.

Visual Studio Online is new to me.

I have now registered my test account at Visual Studio Online and created a virtual website.

Do I need to create a virtual website to register with Visual Studio Online? Why is this a separate process? What can I do at Visual Studio Online if I don't create a virtual website?

  • Hi,

To validate your account against Visual Studio Online, Charles requested to login the Visual Studio and verify.

If you are able to login then you can confirm that your credentials are good.

You can give a try with other Released version of earlier production version like VS 2013 or VS 2012, just to confirm is it a bug with the 2015 CTP Version client.

If you are able to login with the earlier version but not in the new version, you can raise a bug with Microsoft Voice, feedback mechanism.

  • Thanks, Senthilraj, for elaborating on this.

I was now able to sign-in via Visual Studio.

However, may I ask what's the purpose of creating a virtual website at Visual Studio Online? Is this a required step for being able to sign in via Visual Studio?
