How do I build packages for SSIS in Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition using SQL Server 2014 developer edition RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed VS 2015 Community Edition along with SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition. I cannot seem to create a SSIS package in Visual Studio. I don't want to use the preview version of SSDT. How do I go about getting the right project templates for VS to do this job?

  • Hi Kipwood

To create SSIS packages or any BI project for that matter you require an "add on" component called SQL server data tools. you can download the latest version here.

  • Hi Kipwood,

According to your description, you need to create SSIS package in your SQL Server 2014, right?

In SQL Server 2014, SSDT is a web download only (Setup does not install it), but there are two versions depending on whether you’re building relational databases or BI models, reports, and SSIS packages. The following versions of SSDT and SSDT-BI can be used with SQL Server 2014.

    • SSDT for Visual Studio 2012
    • SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2012
    • SSDT for Visual Studio 2013
    • SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2013

So in your scenario, you cannot create a SQL Server 2014 package with VS 2015. Please download previous version.
