ADPLUS Hang/Crash Dump Analysis RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I need guidance from anyone having experience with ADPLUS or Process Explorer tools - Windows Debugging Tools.

Issue: For one of the crash/hang issues in our production environment, we are trying to create and analyze the hang dumps. We have used ADPLUS for generating the dumps during the hang. The server is Windows Server 2003. Though we understand what the issue is (which dll is causing the problem) from the ADPLUS stack trace, we are not able to take a next step towards resolution as we can’t completely comprehend the data. We also used Process Explorer for analysis.

The Stack Trace (below) from ADPLUS depicts that the process is waiting for some return from an IO operation (.NtReadFile). I cannot understand which file it is and why it would hang on any file.  I would like to know if anyone has any idea on how to get that information from ADPLUS.

Also, please let me know if you need any details further or results of any other commands executed on ADPLUS.

    Thanks, in advance.

  • Hi Jahnavi -

Your provided Adplus RAW Data is not giving any significant information about issue. This Warning message is common warning message. What is your server configuration?

Are you facing issue on all hosted application or any particular application?

Is there any Error/Warning message in Application & System Event Logs?

You can use real time IIS Tracer tool to see what is going on your Webserver.

You can download from here :

    Please let me know.

  • Hi Vipin,

Issue would be on our application only. We have only our application hosted on the server in staging environment where we see the issue.

I tracked back the Event logs but did not see any errors logged.

All I have now are the ADPLUS dumps for couple of instances the issue occured. We were told these dumps should tell us what is going wrong. The executable is based on a third party product. We don't have the .pdb files for attaching the symbols. But since the ADPLUS (with MS downloaded symbols) stack trace does not show any issue from the third party dlls, we believe issue is to do with some configuration on our server.

Are you looking for any specific configuration details?

I wish to use the IIS Tracer Tool and see if it helps. Will let you know updates.
