cannot connect remotely using sql server 2005 sp3 on windows 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have set up sql server 2005 sp 3 on windows 2008, and cannot connect remotely.

    I have done the following:
    1.   confirmed that i have "allow remote connections" checked under server properties.  I
    2.   gone into Surface area configuration and made sure TCPIP and Names pipes is enabled under Remote connections.  I'm using the default port 1433.
    3.  Gone into Configuration manager  and made sure the TCP and Names pipes are enabled under Sql Server 2005 Network configuration.

Not sure waht else to do??

  • Error message i'm getting is :
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.
The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.

  • Christene,

Is built-in firewall ON? Is there another firewall between you and server?
    Can you ping your server?
Can you telnet to the server on port 1443? telnet server_name 1433
    Is that a named instance?

    Regards,
    Akim
