What should be UNIQUE ID of the machine?MotherBoard ID? Window Product ID? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey, Everyone

I am working on getting a unique ID of the machine. The current ID I am using is MAC Address which can be changed by software. I am looking for replacement of MAC Address.

I did a lot research, and found there are many problems with each item I found.

For Motherboard Serial Number (ID): It is Unique; it cant be changed. However, it may not be found in some machines if Manufactures didnt put information on Memory Location.

For Processor ID: It default to be disable. Cant use it.

For BIOS ID: Some people said it is same as Motherboard Serial Number, but it is different in my Machine. Anyway, it may not be found in some machines if Manufactures didnt put information on Memory Location.

For Window Product ID: It can be changed by Software.

Some people suggest to combine all of them together to minimize the possibility.

BUT is there any other item that can be use as Unique ID of a machine?

    Thank You

    Will
