relationship between gdi and directx RRS feed

  • We are trying to implement screen capture in Windows. We are running into some problems. But we are unable to find an API that will give us a good access to the exact framebuffer that gets displayed on the screen. When we try the BitBlt function, we do not get proper screenshots when running DirectX applications in fullscreen mode. I am guessing GDI does not get the proper framebuffers in other scenarios as well. Mirror drivers are not getting proper framebuffers either.

    1. Can someone tell us if there is an API that will give us what gets displayed on the screen ?
    2. If there is no API for 1, can someone tell us some pointers on what can we do to develop one and if it is possible to do so in software ?
