Does MDW and MDB have to have the same path? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am designing an application that accepts the databae file name for MS-Access before it tries to connect to the database.

1-Does the MDB file and the MDW file always have to be on the same directory?

2-Do I need to alter security policy for the connection Open to work?

    Thanks.

  • No, the path to the .mdw file can be specified in the connection string.

You may need to change permissions if the datababase is on a network resource. Typically full access to the folder where the database is located is required (in order to manage the corresponding .LDB file), but you can remove Delete permissions for the database file (.mdb).
