Excel 2013 Primary Interop conflict with Excel 2010 interop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Windows Forms application written in VB with Visual Studio 2010 that has a reference to Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel version 14.0.0.0 which allows it to automate reading and writing spreadsheets.

Our IT recently installed Lync 2013 which also installed the Excel 2013 interop and consequently caused the COM application to fail stating that the .dll is not registered.

As suggested by Leo_Gao in this post http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/dd052f27-20d6-4b6b-9d8b-fe4fd9c6b9fc/broke-excel-interop-com-assembly-after-installingremoving-2013-beta-release?forum=exceldev

we removed the 2013 Excel PIA key from the registry and then the COM application runs and can once again automate Excel. However, every time our IT pushes out a Lync 2013 update it restores the Excel 2013 interop dll.

They tell me they cannot prevent the Excel 2013 interop from installing with Lync 2013.

Is there some other way to keep the Excel 2010 interop dll registered?

Or, some other way to reference the Excel 2010 interop dll?
