Connecting to Datazen server on Azure VM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I have a problem with connecting to Azure VM. Microsoft Server 2012 is installed on the VM as well as Datazen Enterprise Server.

    If I try to connect to VM through web browser, Datazen control panel will load and everything works fine.

    But when I try to connect to Datazen server using Datazen Publisher app, I get message that Server isnt available. I cant debug the connection because it doesnt show any records in fiddler.

    Do you have any ideas what should I do?

  • If you are using a VPN while trying to connect the Publisher App to the server, check to ensure you are using the most recent VPN Client. We had the same issue today where one person could connect the publisher to the server and one could not, It turned out the be the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client causing the problem. Updated the VPN client and connected fine.

  • This is because you need to configure endpoints to your VM.

    By default only RDP and remote powershel administration is allowed. To authorize other inbound connection for your VM, you need to configure endpoints (Opening ports) for your VM.

    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-set-up-endpoints/

    You need first to look  which ports are used by your Datazen application

  • Datazen server is running on port 80 and 443 for https.

    Both http and https are allowed in endpoints. If they werent, I wouldnt be able to open Datazen control panel in browser in the first place

  • Please try Wireshark or Message Anlyzer to check at which level the traffic is blocked

  • Hi Ondra;

    Since you are not able to TELNET i suggest you to check the Firewall settings first. Also if you could provide a snippet that would be helpful.

  • Have you looked the Firewall on the VM server itself. Opening the endpoints doesn't seem to add an application entry into the firewall. I was using port 81 in IIS and so had to add a separate firewall entry for Datazen.
