Lan Service Does Not Start RRS feed

  • Question

  • We recently installed Visual SourceSafe on a server which was built about a week ago.  We were migrating our SourceSafe database from a server that failed and needed a rebuild.  The following error was recorded in the event log.  The RPC service is running.  I have disabled antivirus and still received the same result.

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Service Control Manager
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 7000
    Date:  3/6/2007
    Time:  5:26:03 PM
    User:  N/A
    Computer: BLSRV002
    Description:
The Visual SourceSafe LAN Service service failed to start due to the following error:
Visual SourceSafe LAN Service is not a valid Win32 application.

I also ran Alin Constantin's SSServiceTest.exe and receive an error that says:
SSServiceTest: Connecting to VSS service on blsrv002 ...
Ping function failed with error 000006d9.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mario
