    Split off from http://forums.asp.net/t/1753045.aspx/1?ORA+12154+TNS+could+not+resolve+service+name

Hello,   I have exact same problem so wasn't sure if this got resolved or not.

    Here's issue:

Have separate DB server running on another machine.

The user was running XP with the Oracle 10g client and had not had any problems logging in using any client tools.   His desktop was then converted to Win7 Pro x64.   Oracle 11.2.0.1 was installed.

TNS_ADMIN environment variable was re-pointed to global server tnsnames.ora file

We can do a tnsping to the database with no problem, can connect via TOAD with no problem, can connect with SQL*Plus with no problem,  can connect with any other application with no problem, except the one application he needs for his primary job, Primavera P6.

We keep getting the TNS 12154 error.

I've tried creating a local copy of the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files into $ORACLE_HOME/product/network/admin folder, same result.

    OS Client is Win7Pro x64
    Oracle Client is 11.2.0.1
also tried removing 11g and reinstalling 10g, no change

Not using IIS, Database is on separage Unix box

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Jim

Some applications on a WIndows 7 64-bit platform

require installation of the Oracle 32-bit client, and in his case preferrably latest 11g client.

If ODP.NET is required, you can use the CLIENT INSTALL option of the latest ODP.NET installation program, 32-bit.
