Home.aspx: How to change column width of text layout (from 50x50% to 65x35%)? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

    I'm trying to modify width Firebug or in SPD, but don't see any changes affected to the page:

    two columns

    What should I change to resize left column from default '49.95%'? My text layout is this:

    two columns

     here I can get this zone and apply width attribute, but this doesn't change anything
    var zone = jQuery("#MSOZoneCell_WebPartWPQ6").css({"width": "70%", "overflow": "auto"});
    Trying to set style="width" attributes in Home.aspx for different div's, table and td's in advanced mode give no result. What file should I edit?..

    Best regards,

    Gennady

  • Hi Rockie,

    We can override the CSS style below to change the tile web part width:

    <style type="text/css">
    .ms-promlink-root{
    	 width:50%;
    }
    </style>

    Thanks

    Best Regards

  • Thank You for replies guys!

    We can override the CSS style below to change the tile web part width:

    Hi Jerry!

    1) Strange - I have no such tag on my page, but I tried many td's and div's and no result

    2) Can You set the width more than 50%? I think Your CSS will allow to change width only inside container(not more than 50%), but I want left column to be 65%..

    Best regards,

    Gennady

  • Hi Rockie,

    When setting width to 65%, it won't show the container as the width can show all the tiles.

    And which version of SharePoint you are using, SharePoint On-Premise or SharePoint Online ?

    Thanks

    Best Regards

  • Hi Jerry! Thank You for answer!

    It is SharePoint Online 2013, with Team site site collection template(not 'Publishing template').

    Ok, finally I was able to do these changes: I created copy of Home.aspx in SitePages library, set it as "Welcome page" in site settings, and there I was able to change column width using css, or inline styles in aspx file markup:

    #layoutsTable > tbody > tr:nth-child(2) > td:nth-child(1) { width:64.95%;}

    or something like this

    var tr = jQuery("table#layoutsTable tbody tr").eq(2);

    var td = jQuery(tr).find("td:first");

    td.css({"width":"64.95%"});

    I suppose there is some restriction for out-of-box Home.aspx page.. not sure..

  • Hi Jerry!

    Not sure that it is a best answer. Maybe more properly is to activate "Publishing Infrastructure" on Site and Web levels and use "Pages" library instead ("SitePages" and "Pages" are different libs, "Pages" comes with publishing features). In "Pages" You can add new pages from page layouts, and they allow these changes:

    Pages libaray

    I'm not an expert here, let others experiment :)
