    Hi,

As far as I know, to use the free version, you need to download and install Visual Studio Community edition. More information: https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/visual-studio-community-vs.aspx

If you have any concern about license issue, and you can get more detail information: Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find contact information in their locations: http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/

Please let me know if you need any help.

    With regards,

    Angie

I did the same thing and it was VS 2013 instead of 2015.

If you have any concern about license issue
What license? If the product is free, why should I care for license.

    Am I missing something here?

Are you 100% sure you are using the Community edition rather than the full product? Does it really ask for a product key or does it ask only for downloading a licence? AFAIK the  Community Edition never asks for a product key but you have to download (and maybe renew) your free licence (likely they want to keep track of basic usages beyond just downloading the Community edition).

Yes it only asks for updating the license and sign in. In the meantime, I have installed vs 2015 community edition but today trial period ended and when i try to sign in, it's giving me a strange error. "SP324099: Could not complete the operation."
