Search Result excludes newly created items RRS feed

  • I noticed that SharePoint 2010 does not include newly created items in the search results. Is this normal? Can this be improved?

    For example, if I enter a new item, I want any user to be able to find this item as soon as I save the item.  But right now, the user has to wait a day or so for SharePoint to include this new item in the search result. If I try to search for this new item, SharePoint does not display it in the search results.

  • The search engine has several components. One of them is a crawler. The crawler service 'picks up' (or reads) new documents content and meta data.  This is basically how the search engine "learns" of items to display on the search results page.  You can adjust the crawler schedule in Central Administration to increase the frequency of incremental crawls.  Although it's possible to set it to one minute, it's probably not practical due to server load and various other factors.  Anywhere from 5-15 minute schedule is generally acceptable.  This is a delay most users are willing to live with.

  • Thanks for the info.  I sent a request to our admin if they could adjust the crawler schedule.
