In data view I am getting "BINARY" results when using function to get monthname of dates RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    We've had reports running for months now,  doing just fine that took dates from our MySQL database, used the MySQL MONTHNAME() function to get the name of the months in the dates (January, February, etc.) and outputting in chart. For some reason yesterday the reports starting throwing the following errors on preview:

    An error occurred during local report processing.
    An error has occurred during report processing.
    The GroupExpression expression used in custom reportitem `customReportItem2` returned a data type that is not valid.

    As far as I know no changes were made to the system.  Also even in the Data tab mode if we do a simple query such as
    SELECT MONTHNAME(startDate) as monthGroup FROM datetable;
    Returned are rows filled with <Binary>.

     If I do a simple select of the dates with no function on them, they return and report fine. MySQL also returns correct results with the same query above.

    Using Visual Studio 2005 ver. 8.0.50727.42 with SQL Server Reporting Services ver. 9.00.3042.00.

    Please let me know if any more information is needed. Thanks!
