Error launching web server with profiling: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using Visual Studio 2015 with an MVC project configured to use Local IIS.  When I try to start profiling, I get the following output in the Performance window

    Preparing web server for profiling.
    Profiling started.
    Launching web server with profiling.
The web site could not be configured correctly; getting ASP.NET process information failed. Requesting 'https://cas-web4/ApiGateway/VSEnterpriseHelper.axd' returned an error: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

    Profiler stopping.
    File not found:D:\Visual Studio Files\Production\API\UO.CAS.API151006.vspx
    Profiling complete.

This looks like a certificate issue because URIs without fully-qualified domains are not trusted:

    https://cas-web4/ApiGateway/....  appears as a self-signed cert

    https://cas-web4.uoregon.edu/ApiGateway/....  cert is valid

The problem is that Visual Studio can only create/reference a virtual directory with localhost in the Project URL.  If I try to use https://cas-web4.uoregon.edu/ApiGateway as the Project URL in <project properties> -> Web, it prompts to create a new virtual directory, then returns "Unable to create the virtual directory" when I click Ok.  https://localhost/ApiGateway works fine. Substituting the IP address does not work.

So, how do I get the Profiler to start with a secure trust relationship?
