Issues with .NET 4 install RRS feed

  • Hey I've tried a number of different things to get .NET 4 to work on my computer, but it is still giving me issues.  Several applications (SpySweeper, Steam installer, and a few others) give an error along the lines of:

     

    To run this application, you must first install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework:

    v4.0.30319

    Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .NET framework.

     

    I have tried running the installer from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b386f32c0992&displaylang=en, that didn't work.  So I tried uninstalling from the "Programs and Features" panel, then tried to reinstall.  That didn't work.  I then tried using the .NET Framework Cleanup Utility (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx), and reinstalled from there.  It seemed to work for a bit, but after my next Windows automated update, everything broke again.

     

    Finally, I tried cleaning up with the tool, reinstalling, and then running the .NET setup verification tool (http://cid-27e6a35d1a492af7.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Blog|_Tools/netfx|_setupverifier|_new.zip?sa=821839555), and it confirmed that .NET 4 wasn't installing correctly.  I tried a system restore, but that didn't work, so I pulled out my Windows 7 install disk, and attempted to repair from there.  After letting the Windows 7 installer run overnight, the problem still persists.  At this point, I'm afraid that my only option is to do a clean install, but I thought I'd check here first in case I'm missing something.

     

    I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium on an AMD X2 5200.  As far as windows  update claims that I am as up to date as I can be, and all steps have been performed with admin privileges.  Here is the error log generated by the setup verification tool:

  • You might want to try the standalone installation package, rather than the web installer.

    Clean up one more time, then download this:

    Clean out your %temp% folder. Disable your AV and anti-malware apps, then run as administrator.

    According the verification logs, there are severl DLLs not find in your system, and the installation of .NET Framework 4.0 might be corrupted.

    Would you please follow pvdg42's suggestion, download and install the standalone installer of .NET Framework?

    Before install .NET Framework, please finish the steps below first:

    ·         Turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software during installation;

    ·         Clean your %temp% folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%);

     

    And remember run the setup with Administrator privilege: right-click the installer -> Run as administrator.

     

    After the installation, would you please follow the steps below to collect the installation log files?

    ·         Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder with the Log Collection Tool

    ·         You can find the vslogs.cab file in the %temp% folder.
    Upload the vslogs.cab file to some online public storage place, and paste the link here
