Visual Studio 2015 (Windows 10) incompatibility problem

    Question

  • I have embarked on a project where I am trying to implement a supervised or unsupervised machine learning algorithm, for school.  One of my experiments is a dummy program using Visual Studio 2015, however, as I am trying to create a database, an error message indicates that Visual Studio 2015 Academic is not compatible with SQL Server 2012, and, I cannot install SQL Server 2008 on Windows 10, which seems like I am stuck from working.

Is Microsoft going to issue a fix please or is one available?

Does anyone want to help providing me with a solution or a prototype?

Which cyber-security vulnerabilities am I exposing myself to, by posting here?

Rule Name Rule Description Result Message/Corrective Action
GlobalRules: SQL Server 2008 Setup configuration checks for rules group 'GlobalRules'
AclPermissionsFacet Checks if the SQL Server registry keys are consistent. Passed SQL Server registry keys are consistent and can support SQL Server installation or upgrade.
MediaPathLength Checks whether the SQL Server installation media is too long. Passed The SQL Server installation media is not too long.
OsVersionCheck Checks whether the computer meets minimum operating system version requirements. Passed The operating system version meets the minimum requirements for this product.
RebootRequiredCheck Checks if a pending computer restart is required. A pending restart can cause Setup to fail. Passed The computer does not require a restart.
ThreadHasAdminPrivilegeCheck Checks whether the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator rights on the computer. Passed The account running SQL Server Setup has administator rights on the computer.
WmiServiceStateCheck Checks whether the WMI service is started and running on the computer. Passed The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service is running.
AddNodeGlobalRules: SQL Server 2008 Setup configuration checks for rules group 'AddNodeGlobalRules'
Cluster_IsMachineClustered Checks whether the local computer is a node in a Windows failover cluster. Failed The local computer is not a member of a Windows failover cluster.
Cluster_IsOnline Verifies that the cluster service is online. Failed The SQL Server failover cluster services is not online, or the cluster cannot be accessed from one of its nodes. To continue, determine why the cluster is not online and rerun Setup. Do not rerun the rule because the rule cannot detect a cluster environment.
Cluster_RemoteRegistryServiceFacet Checks whether the Remote Registry service is enabled. Failed Remote Registry service is disabled on this computer.
Cluster_VerifyForErrors Checks if the cluster has been verified and if there are any errors or failures reported in the verification report. Failed The cluster either has not been verified or there are errors or failures in the verification report. Refer to KB953748 or SQL Server Books Online for more information.
Cluster_DNS_Consistency_Rule Checks if the DNS search list on computer JON-PC is consistent with the other nodes of a cluster. Passed The computer is not clustered or the DNS search list on computer JON-PC matches the other nodes.
Cluster_IsDomainController Checks if the computer is a Windows domain controller. Passed The machine is not a Windows domain controller.

FacetWOW64SetupCheck Determines whether SQL Server Setup is supported on this operating system platform. Passed SQL Server Setup is supported on this operating system platform.
FusionRebootCheck Checks if a computer restart is required because of broken fusion ATL. A pending restart can cause SQL Server Setup to fail. Passed The computer does not require a restart.
IsDomainNetworkTopOfBindings Checks to see if the computer domain server is on the network that is bound to the top of the network order. Passed The domain network is bound correctly.
SqlUnsupportedProductBlocker Checks whether SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 7.0 OLAP Services is installed. Server Server 2008 is not supported with SQL Server 7.0. Passed SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 7.0 OLAP Services is not installed.
SSMS_IsInternetConnected Verifies that the computer is connected to the Internet. When a Microsoft .NET application like Microsoft Management Studio starts, there maybe be a slight delay while the .NET security check validates a certificate. Warning The MSCS cluster has been validated but there are warnings in the MSCS cluster validation report, or some tests were skipped while running the validatation. To continue, run validation from the Windows Cluster Administration tool to ensure that the MSCS cluster validation has been run and that the MSCS cluster validation report does not contain errors.
IsFirewallEnabled Checks whether the Windows Firewall is enabled. Warning The Windows Firewall is enabled. Make sure the appropriate ports are open to enable remote access. • Hi slyth,

    >>an error message indicates that Visual Studio 2015 Academic is not compatible with SQL Server 2012

Could you please provide the detailed error message, such as a screenshot, which can help us understanding what real problem you are facing?

As far as I know, Visual Studio 2015 contains a internal database. We can create database through this internal database with menu View -> SQL Server Object Explorer.

In addition, please make sure you have installed the SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2015. Please open Control Panel and find the Visual Studio 2015 in Programs.

Then right-click it select Change, it will show a setup window. Click the Modify button on that window, check the SQL Server Data Tools to install (click the Next -> Update button) it.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,

The MSDN, TechNet and Expression Library Feedback forum is to "Help improve the Library Experience in MSDN, TechNet and Expression by providing feedback on features, bugs, look and feel or by just providing suggestions". This is not a support forum.

As it's off-topic here, I am moving the question to the Visual Studio General Questions forum.
