Cannot access PWA site from my PC RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I created a PWA site using Project Server 2010. I could access the PWA site locally on the server's browser(via http://[localhost:portnumber]/PWA). But since the server doesnt have Microsoft Project professional installed, I have to access the PWA site from my PC(via http://[localhost:portnumber]/PWA), with the necessary firewall ports opened. But i get the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' error. I tried accessing the same PWA site from another server (within the same subnet) and got the same error too. Since the firewall ports (between servers) in the same subnet are all opened, it could not be due to firewall port issue. Hence my windows system administrator told me that it must be due to some services not running. He is not SharePoint trained.

Note that for other normal sharepoint sites, such as from port 80, i have no problem acessing from my PC.

I could not find any meaningful errors from Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\Logs.

What could it be due to ? Thanks.

  • Why http://servername:portnumber/sites/prjsvr/default.aspx?

What is the exact error message.  Do you use proxy server?

  • Are you able to ping the server from your PC? Also can you install TelNet client and try performing a Telnet to that server using the port number used by the Web Application e.g. if the url is http://myserver:111/pwa then do a TelNet as Telnet myserver 111

  • Hi Hrishi

The exact error message is as stated in my first error message: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

    Did not use proxy server.

    Hi Dinesh,

When i ping from my PC, i get the 'request time out'. I cannot install TelNet client on my PC as I am not the administrator (my office has strict rules about installing unauthorised software). in any case, i try to access from another server within the same segment as the server which i installed Microsoft Project Server and i get the same 'Internet explorer cannot display the webpage' error. When I tried to telnet with port 111 from this server to the Microsoft Project Server using command prompt, i get error "Could not open connection to host, on port XX: connect fail". However, for a normal sharepoint site (in the same server as the sharepoint hosting the Microsoft Project Server) which I can access from my PC to the sharepoint site, i can telnet into this server.

    In Summary:

(telnet from a server residing in same subnet): telnet myserver [PWA port] - cannot work

(telnet from a server residing in same subnet):telnet myserver [pure SharePoint port] - can work

(access from my PC browser) : http://myserver:[PWA port] - cannot work

(access from my PC browser) : http://myserver:[pure SharePoint port] - can work

    Thanks.
