VS Pro 2012 Version 11.0.60610.01 Update 3 Bombs Out on Windows 8 x64 RRS feed

  • // VS Pro 2012 Version 11.0.60610.01 Update 3 Bombs Out on Windows 8 x64

    1. I start a new LightSwitch project, either HTML or Silverlight.
    2. I select Start with data and create a new table.
    3. I modify the default Table1Item table name to MyTable for example and as soon as the cursor leaves the table name field VS2012 bombs out, opens a Window containing source for a Common\GeneratedArtifacts\EntityG01.cs file.

I've run DxDiag and no problems found.

This is my first attempt to use LightSwitch since I updated VS2012 to Update 3. Previous versions have been stable including all installs. Is there a way for me to get VS2012 LightSwitch stable and operational again?

  • I have to add that existing LightSwitch projects and samples all seem to load fine and I can add new tables to them without bombing out. Its only new LightSwitch projects that bomb out.

  • Hi Clinton

After you updated your Visual Studio 2012 to Update 3, could you also have a try repair your Visual Studio 2012 update 3 again?

    To repair Visual Studio

1.In Control Panel, on the Programs and Features page, choose the product edition that you want to repair, and then choose Uninstall/Change.

2.In the Setup wizard, choose Repair, choose Next, and then follow the remaining instructions.

    hope it helps,

    Regards

  • Thank you for replying Amgie but your suggestion was the very first thing I tried and it did not help.

So I went down the rabbit hole and uninstalled SP3 and now I have no LightSwitch templates to make new projects! I saved the SP2 and am going to try to reinstall SP2 next.

I installed Update 4 last night and indeed VS2012 and LightSwitch templates have been restored to functionality --however-- on occassion when attempting to create tables in LightSwitch 2012 VS2012 will still bomb out.
