SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP 2 download doesn't work in ClickOnce RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    My client wanted to install a ClickOnce application which requires SSCE 3.5. The installer downloads this dependency if it isn't installed yet. This download attempt fails with the following error:

    An error occurred downloading the following resource:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=101349&clcid=0x409
    Date: 29.04.2020 13:50:18
    See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\Kuba Szymanowski\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD22D6.tmp\install.log' for more information.

    The problem is that the link no longer works. After pasting http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=101349&clcid=0x409 in my browser I get redirected to http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/8/5/b85fb87c-2f67-46c2-a475-0ded755f2e76/SSCERuntime-ENU.msi and this request fails with 404 Not Found.

    I have tried installing SSCE 3.5 SP 2 manually (from .exe and .msi) but the ClickOnce installer doesn't seem to identify that the dependency is already installed and tries to download it again which fails with the same error I mentioned.

    How can I install SSCE 3.5 manually and make the installer see that it is installed?
    Alternatively, can the installer file for SSCE 3.5 be restored at the mentioned URL?

    Kind regards,
    Kuba Szymanowski

  • The problem has been solved. To make the ClickOnce installer see the installed SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 I needed to add the following registry key:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\GAC]
    "System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll_ENU"="System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll"

  • Did the installation of the SQL CE runtime not add this key?

    Please mark as answer, if this was it. Visit my SQL Server Compact blog http://erikej.blogspot.com
