Difference between transaction and session RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using the Bing Maps geocoding service from a web application.  What is the difference between a session and a transaction?

  • I believe that a session starts when a map is loaded onto a web page and ends when the map is unloaded from that page. If I'm not mistaken, transactions no longer apply to tile consumption; a map load is a single transaction and then transactions are counted when you consume other services like the geocoding and routing services. In this context, each transaction is a single request to the service.

Note: I just went searching for a good source for this information and found this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff859477.aspx.

    Hope this helps.
