Migration of domain users in Project Server via SQL query RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Experts,

We are migrating the users of Project server 2013 to a new domain. Migration will be done in "waves" (not all at once).

I know that for migrating the Project server users, we need to change Resource's logon name field by replacing the old domain with new domain name.

But my question is - If I change the field directly via SQL query, is that recommended by Microsoft?

I do not want to break the "warranty" by Microsoft by editing the Project Database directly.

Also, which of the database should be updated and in which sequence for changing the Resource related Table?

  • Hello,

It is not supported to update the user account diretly in the database, this will need to be done via the UI (Project Pro or PWA) or APIs.

  • Hi,

As Paul has mentioned as well not be done in SQL directly. General Rule of Thumb is never ever perform any activity directly on SQL table when it comes to Project Server or SharePoint until and unless stated by Microsoft for something very specific.

This would be done from interface.
