Experimental Instance and MSI installed add-in RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a problem with experimental instance. I have a big and complex add-in to Visual Studio and i am using

VS hive to register it. Is it possible to launch my add-in in old style VS Exp ?

I mean that i want to have a copy of main register of VS 2010 (10.0Exp) and i want

to install my add-in there and than run VS2010 from such modified suffix.

Is this possible at all ?

    Best regards, Michael.

  • Hello, Michael

Do you mean you want to debug your add-in in experimental hive like what did the package do?

This is possible, right click your addin project node, then click properties. In the properties page, click Debug tab. In the Command line arguments, click write the following:

    /rootsuffix Exp /resetaddin YouAddInName.Connect,

For example, if my add in name is AddinExHive, you need to put

    /rootsuffix Exp /resetaddin AddinExHive.Connect.

However the add-in will still appear in the normal Visual studio, because it will search the add-in path in some specified folders. In order to avoid this, you need to configure the *.addin path(In Tools->Options->Environment->AddIn/Macro Security).
