Mysterious attachment in e-mail

Question
-
Which forum should I ask this question:
I sent an e-mail via Outlook 2002 with three recipients.
It is a small, simple, plain text e-mail with no attachments. When I processed the MIME contents on the receiver side (in my C# app), it had an attachment called winmail.dat.
Why the attachment, and what would be in it? How can I view the contents of this .dat file? Thanks,
Jon Jacobs
