we have TFS Workgroup edition (supplied along with
MSDN subscription package) and successfully used it in our development process. Now we want
to upgrade it to Standard version (5 CAL
is really limiting us). As says this article (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms404848(VS.80).aspx)
the only thing we need is the right Product Key. To get it, we bought TFS and
25 CALs for it and received yesterday electronic version of licenses. BUT, as
we were told in our local Microsoft’s technical support, this product DOES NOT
HAVE any activation keys itself and therefore they can’t give us any Product
Key to upgrade from Workgroup. The only thing they suggest is to install it
from the scratch, but we don’t want to do it – we have a lot of working projects
in the Workgroup Edition. Local Technical support here (Moscow) is not able to give me clear answer what
to do. Help me, please.

PS What exactly we bought is here:
1) Microsoft® Visual Studio® Team Foundation Server
2005 English OPEN No Level (125-00095)
2) Microsoft® Visual Studio® Team Fndation Svr CAL
2005 English OPEN No Level User CAL User CAL
(126-00139)
The answer was easy: the only thing you need is to find the right guy in the technical support, who knows the procedure in details (described here http://blogs.msdn.com/robcaron/archive/2006/02/09/529033.aspx) and really wants to help you, instead of playing the ping-pong game. Hopefully, we've found one.
