The Computer Not Reachable Azure Monitor create an alert RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We want to start using Azure Monitor to alert us when things go down.  We have it working in SCOM by we want to stop using SCOM (long story).

So for a test I create a test VM .

Azure portal I goto Monitor > I select the RG and the VM .

Then the condition section . I can't find a Health Service to select for a Condition.

Can someone point me in the right direction.

  • Hi

The Azure Monitor (log Analytics) agent on the VMs sends heartbeat events every 1 minutes for Windows and every 5 minutes for Linux machines. Based on that data you can create alert. Below is example blog post where you create the alert for specific VM.

  • Hello,

    thanks for that URL.

I am going through the steps but there is no Heartbeat metric.

I select Signal type as Metrics and Monitor Service as ALL

There is no Heartbeat metric .

The closest thing I can see to that is Health event

I then went to Monitor and Metrics. I select another server and aslo there is no heartbeat metric there.

    hmm really strange
