Entity Table Joins vs Table Views RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using VB.NET with Visual Studio 2015 and Entity Framework 6

I am working on a windows forms application and trying to create a Master Detail form. My first approach/current approach is based on SQL Server 2014 Table Views, but wondering if there is a better approach?

If you use Table Views, you could only query the data from database, which you could not change the data via Table Views.

In addition about Creating Master-Details Windows Forms with the Entity Framework, please refer to the following video

  • I'd us a View if you have something that can't be written with linq to entities such as a common table expression, a hierarchical query, or if the linq to entities query performs poorly. Additionally, a View can abstract away normalization details and insulate you from changes in the underlying table structure.

Bottom line - do whatever leads to more understandable & cleaner code.
