Error creating sites using any custom template RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I started having an issue today creating Project Server 2010 sites using custom templates.  I have tried creating a new Microsoft Project Site, making no changes and saving it as a template and get the same error.  I am still able to create sites using the Microsoft Project Site template.  Here is the error from the job queue:

  • The error was traced back to a issue with the StoragePoint installation on the Project Server server.  Still unsure why it was affecting the site creation process, but reinstalling it has fixed the issue.

  • Hi there,

When you created a new template, was this created from an exsiting project site already linked to a project? If so, please test again following these steps:

    • Open the PWA homepage
    • Click Site Actions  >New Site
    • Select the Microsoft Project Site template
    • Give the site a title and URL and click create
    • Do not make changes to this test template
    • Save this new site as a template
    • Re-test creating a new project / project site after making this new template the default project site template

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Hi

try to create a SharePoint site from your new template before you try it using Project Server.

You get better error messages from SharePoint.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

Sorry for the slow reply, I was wrapped up in another project and not able to get back to the Project Server issue.  If I create a site template using those steps, I am still not able to create the project site successfully.  No changes are made to the site created with the Microsoft Proect Site template and it is saved as a new template.  SharePoint does create a site (ie if I use the project name Test001, then a PWA\Test001 site is made), however that site does not inherit any Project Server features (nothing under libraries, lists, or discussions) and does not link to the project.

    Hope that makes sense

  • Are you getting on the same machine? or you are moving the template to another system?

    Thanks, Kashif

  • Hi Kashif,

This is occuring on the same machine the template is created on.  I've also reset the WFEs, APP and Project servers and still get the error when creating a site from a newly created / unmodified template.

    Thanks.
