Native WiFi IHV Extension's Dot11ExtNicSpecificExtension calls to IHV Miniport driver during association.... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have gone though the msdn documentation and found that
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff545160(v=vs.85).aspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff560683(v=vs.85).aspx

    1) If the wireless network security profile contains IHV connectivity settings, the operating system will call the IHV Extension DLL's  Dot11ExtIhvPerformPreAssociate function.
    2) The IHV Extension DLL can make as many calls to Dot11ExtNicSpecificExtension as needed when parsing the IHV connectivity settings.

    So, Now my question is,
If we configure an wireless network Profile that doesn't contain any IHV dependent security/authentication methods,

    Q) Does the Native WiFi Framework or MSM allows the Dot11ExtNicSpecificExtension calls to IHV miniport after it(miniport) has  indicated Association start to Native WiFi Framework and before it(IHV miniport)is associated to an AP?

my observation with above particular case is as follows:
Once the IHV Miniport indicates the Association start to Native WiFi Framework, It (Native Wifi Framework) is pending the Dot11ExtNicSpecificExtension  requests from IHV Service dlls  and sending it to miniport only after receiving association complete indication from IHV miniport driver.

pls let me know if anyone is having difficulty in understanding the above question.

    Thanks

    Akhil
