Find nearby locations service module is not returning results outside of US RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am facing an issue where I cannot get any points of interest or locations to return in a map Find nearby location search. For example when I go here http://www.bing.com/api/maps/sdkrelease/mapcontrol/isdk#sdsNearbySearch+JS and change the example to use the coordinates of London (51.509865, -0.118092) I get no results where if I use the location coordinates provided or somewhere inside US I get results.

Need to find out why I am not getting results outside US.

  • That sample is using the NavteqNA data source which is for North America. There is a separate data source NavteqEU which contains points of interests for Europe and parts of Africa. Use the following as the data source URL:

    https://spatial.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/data/c2ae584bbccc4916a0acf75d1e6947b4/NavteqEU/NavteqPOIs

If you want to add some code to handle both NA and EU, you can either query both data sources, or simply look at the longitude value of your search location if it is less than -6, use NA, and if greater use EU.

Additional information about these data sources can be found here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh478189.aspx
