Windows Server 2008 Standard IIS 7 .Net framework 4.5 upgrade experience and down time RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi there everyone.

I have a server which I need to upgrade to .Net Framework 4.5 since we are moving few applications targeting 4.5.

Now, we are debating in team how much time we will need to go down in order to re-boot or any follow-up fixers like missing critical updates or any other blockers.

As I mention its a Windows Server 2008 Standard Build 6002, SP 1 on it; running IIS 7 with .Net framework 4.0. Web Installer is installed.

Unfortunately the client is running ca. 20 websites, staging and production mixed on this machine.

My question is: how smooth could such a upgrade go and how worse it could be. Our first thought was it will take only few minutes. But I'm little bit skeptical in terms what if a follow-up installations are needed. I'm thinking KB fixes, critical updates, SP2 and besides this other important configurations settings.

Thanks for any suggestions or feedback on this scenario.
