Project Load Failure: Catastropic error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently had to uninstall and reinstall VS2005 and now I can't load any of my Windows CE projects. I get the error:

    Project Load Failure

    Project file 'project.vcproj' or a referenced file has failed to load.

    The following error has occurred during XML parsing:

    Error message: Catastrophic error

    I've tried installing SP1 and it makes no difference. I uninstalled all the Windows CE SDKs and tried again and got a message about how my project included devices that weren't supported, which is what I'd expect. But as soon as I install one of my SDKs it gives me this error.

    Is this an installation problem? I never saw this from VS2005 before. I know the project files are fine as everyone else on my team can load them.

  • Hi Tom,

    Please look the following issue:

    Try out the following
    1. For each user on the machine remove the %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CoreCon\1.0 Folder and all files under it.
    2. For each user on the machine rename the %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Device Emulator\ folder to %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Device Emulator_B2\
    3. Repair the Windows Mobile 5.0 SDKs .

    If that doesn't work, try running 'devenev /setup /resetuserdata'

  • If I remove these lines from the .vcproj file it loads:

       <DeploymentTool
        ForceDirty="-1"
        RemoteDirectory=""
        RegisterOutput="0"
        AdditionalFiles=""
       />

    Why is this causing a problem for a recent install but not for older ones?

  • Removing these lines allows me to load the project but when I go to Property Pages->Configuration Properties the Deployment tab has disappeared.
