Ok.
The 2008 R2 SP3 (10.50.6000.34) is the latest one for 2008 R2.
No more Cumulative Updates for SP3.
I think you downgrade the MDS to 10.50.1720.0 which is 2008 R2 RTM CU2.
You can fix it by following this blog. Although it is for SP1 but the steps applied to SP3.

which blog are you refering?
The MDS Excel addin Januray update is for SQL Server 2014 and it is backwards compatible to SQL Server 2012. For SQL Server 2008 R2, you need upgrade the SQL server at least to 2012.

The blog I found was at: http://sqlblog.com/blogs/mds_team/archive/2010/08/25/downloading-and-installing-sql-server-2008-r2-master-data-services-mds-cumulative-updates.aspx
I'm not too concerned with the Excel add-in
